Welcome to Rooted in Blooms Blog by Matthews Flower Farm! Today, we’re sharing the heartfelt story behind our beloved flower farm and the enduring legacy that inspires us every day.

When you drive in to the entrance of our flower farm, you’re not just entering a field of vibrant blooms—you’re stepping into a living tapestry of family history that dates back over a century. Our journey began with my great-grandparents, who built the farmhouse in 1919, and their love for the land has been passed down through generations.

A Century-Old Dream

Louis G and Anna B Matthews

Our homestead is more than just a place; it’s a testament to hard work, dedication, and a deep connection to nature. My great-grandparents, Anna and Louis Matthews, were the original caretakers of this land.

Restoring the Past

In 2021, my husband and I purchased the property from the family an d have plans to restore the farmhouse and revive the tradition of flower farming. The process was a labor of love—cleaning, repairing, and replanting. We aimed to honor the original charm of the farmhouse while incorporating sustainable farming practices that Anna and Louis would be proud of.

Blossoming Heritage

The true blossoming of our flower farm started with my Uncle Charlie who, inspired by his grandmother’s fondness for flowers, gifted her irises as a young boy as a gesture of love and appreciation. This simple act of planting flower for his grandmother grew into an annual tradition and brought the family together and infused our lives with color and fragrance.

As the years passed, this tradition evolved and expanded. What began as a modest effor to brighten one woman’s day blossomed into a thriving flower farm. My uncle’s dedication and passion for cultivating beautiful flowers became a beacon of joy and symbol of our family’s eduring connections to the land and to each other.

Today, our flower farm stands as a testament to those early days, where a few iris bulbs grew into fields of vibrant and rare blooms. Each one is a reminder of my great=grandparents’ legacy and my uncle’s heartfelt tradition. We continue to honor their memory by nurturing the land and sharing its beauty with others, just as they did.

We’re committed to growing our flowers organically, ensuring they are as pure and vibrant as the memories they represent.
