Welcome to the Chicken Palace: A Regal Addition to Matthews Flower Farm

This year has been one for the books at Matthews Flower Farm, and we’re thrilled to share one of the most excited projects we’ve completed: the Chicken Palace! Yes, you heard that right - it’s not just a coop, it’s a palace fit for feathered royalty.

When we first envisioned adding a new home for our growing flock, we knew it needed to be more than just functional. We wanted to a structure that embodied the heart of our farm: a blend of charm, purpose, and a nod to nostalgia that makes you smile when you see it. So, the Chicken Palace was born, compining the cozy aesthetics of our 100+ year old farmhouse and the practical needs of our hardworking hens.

The design itself was a labor of love, designed by my husband, pulling inspiration from traditional farm architecture with a few whimsical twists. Painted a warm, inviting color of green that compliments the flower fields, the Chicken Palace stands proudly as a testament to what our farm represents - nurturing life, blending old with new, and creating a space where everything, big or small, thrives. With it’s charmng resemblance to a small church, the structure features a beautiful rose-stained glass window above the door, casting vibrant colors inside as the sunlight filters through. And crowning the structure is a classic coopala with a copper roof, catching the light and adding a touch of timeless elegance.

Beyond aesthetics, this structure offers our chickens ample space to roam comfortably, cozy nooks for nesting, and perches placed just right for those sunny afternoon naps. The hens are already clucking their approval, and we can’t say we blame them. It’s hard not to feel a bit of envy when you look at their perfect little domain!

And why “Palace”? Because, here on the farm, we believe that everything deserves a touch of whimsy and joy. Our hens contribute so much - from their farm-fresh eggs that end up in our bread to their cheerful presence as they explore their home - it’s only fitting that they get a space that reflects that.

So next time you stop by Matthews Flower Farm , be sure to say hello to our girls in their Chicken Palace. It’s a new chapter for the farm and a proud symbol of our commitment to quality, care, and a little bit of fun. After all, life on the farm is about finding the beauty in every corner, even if it has feathers and a beak.
